River, Lakes, Bays 'N Bayous Trash BashÒ

Once a year thousands of River, Lakes, Bays 'N Bayous Trash BashÒ volunteers gather along the waterways of the Galveston Bay watershed to do their part in cleaning up the environment. The volunteers from schools, citizen groups, local businesses, industry, local governments and state agencies have made the Trash BashÒ a success since 1994. Between 2006 and 2010, the event celebrated several milestones, including:

  • Growing from 12 to 17 clean up locations

  • Exceeding 5,500 volunteers (2010)

  • Cleaning up more than 120 miles of shoreline

During this same time period, Trash BashÒ was the recipient of several environmental stewardship awards including EPA's Gulf Guardian Award (2009), the Texas Governor's Environmental Excellence Awards - Finalist (2009 & 2010), and a Proud Partners Award winner under Houston Mayor Bill White (2008). Trash BashÒ is regionally coordinated through the H-GAC Solid Waste program.
